Bellarine Community Health is delighted to be a major sponsor of this year’s Rotary Art Show. The annual event, now in its 9th year, will showcase a huge array of local, regional and interstate artists across several categories including painting, drawing, printmaking, flora and fauna and abstract/semi abstract. Bellarine Community Health’s (BCH) Youth Services and Wellbeing team have celebrated 10 years of delivering critical services to young people on the Bellarine.  The 10-year anniversary was marked with a special party at the BCH Youth Services site in Drysdale.  Since the establishment of the Youth Services team, staff numbers have grown from 3 to 24, with clinicians seeing an average of 100 new referrals each month.  “We are incredibly proud of how the Youth Services team has grown over the years,” said BCH Youth Services Manager Tanya Fitzpatrick.  The BCH Youth Services team support young people in many ways including nursing, counselling and mental health, ...

Going to the dentist for many people can be challenging, but if you have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), it can be extremely difficult. Bellarine Community Health is piloting a program that provides a personalised dental service for people with Autism. The project, the first of its kind in Victoria, is already producing great outcomes. Three-year-old Ethan Pavlovic has ASD and recently used the personalised dental program. Bellarine Community Health is calling for nominations for the Board of Directors. As the largest healthcare provider on the Bellarine, BCH provides a comprehensive and professional suite of health and support services for all communities on the Bellarine. BCH is seeking candidates who have appropriate skills and a background in primary healthcare, business or community health. A free community information session is being held next week to shine a light on the disease Hepatitis C. Bellarine Community Health is hosting the event with support from Hepatitis Victoria. Hepatitis Victoria is the state’s peak body advocating on behalf of people living with viral hepatitis and liver disease. A special welcome to Dr Alison Sinadonis who has recently joined the Bellarine Community Health GP Practice. Alison graduated from Monash University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery (Honours). She worked at Barwon Health for a number of years before commencing General Practice training. She has worked in rural and remote communities around Victoria, Queensland and Tasmania, and has now returned to the Geelong region on a permanent basis. A local Type 2 Diabetes Peer Support Group, which operates from Bellarine Community Health’s Portarlington site, is appealing for insulin donations to support international charity, Insulin for Life. Insulin for Life collects and distributes excess insulin and other Diabetes supplies to people in need around the world. The Diabetes Support Group, run by Portarlington locals Eddie Gaskin and Lesley Gordon, is hoping to expand its reach to help more people. Communities on the Bellarine are set to get their first look at Bellarine Community Health’s colourful new ‘HealthCare Bus’. The final touches to exterior detail have been completed and the HealthCare Bus will be available to walk through as part of BCH promotions for Dental Health Week in August. BCH welcomes todays news that more buses will be added across the Bellarine later this year. Member for Bellarine Lisa Neville announced the news in Portarlington to a crowd of community members and Bellarine Community Health staff. These changes will not only help residents connect with the local community and services, they will also give locals better access to Geelong and Melbourne via trains. The four Bellarine bus routes will increase their weekend services, with three extra services each for Route 55 Ocean Grove via Barwon Heads, Route 56 Ocean Grove via Leopold, Route 60 St Leonards via Portarlington and Route 61 Drysdale via Clifton Springs/Leopold. ...

BCH is continuing to improve amenities and building access at our GP Clinic and Community Health Centre site in Portarlington. On Thursday May 11th there will be some small trees and shrubs removed around the driveway entrance to the building and near the car park. The trees are being removed in consultation with Geelong City Council and will be replaced with native shrubs and grasses. The new landscaping will help improve visibility for clients and reduce debris on walkways and footpaths. Clients are urged to take care if they are attending the Fenwick street site on Thursday.

Did you know there's a Supercare Pharmacy open 24 hours, seven days a week, in Curlewis. This State Government initiative is a great asset to communities living on the Northern Bellarine. A Supercare Pharmacy provides access to pharmacists for advice and supply of medicines every day of the year. A registered nurse is in attendance from 6pm to 10pm for health advice and treatment of minor injuries and illness. Private treatment rooms and disable-access toilets are available at the pharmacy. Bellarine Community Health is set to launch what’s believed to be the first pilot project of its kind in Victoria. The Project will provide a personalised dental service for people with a formal diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Going to the dentist can be particularly difficult for people with ASD. The Project will develop a personalised program for patients to support communication, sensory and behavioural needs in the dental clinic.
